HBO’s Silicon Valley: Inside the Hacker Hostel combines the playful comedy of the show with the interactivity of VR. Play a game of “always blue.” Help Richard out of a coding crisis. Trash the house. This tech may just make the world a better place.

With video calls from the main characters and a space filled with show references, explore room after room and become a part of the Silicon Valley universe. The experience is complete with AI-powered foosball, a fully functional bong, a hunt for a missing piece of code, and—of course—the tip-to-tip algorithm. There are more than 750 things to do in this experience, and pretty much zero rules.

My Contributions

  • Lead developer
  • Implemented logic for several of the mini games and interactive objects
  • Co-developed underpinning grabbable object system
  • Modelling, rigging, animation and gameplay logic for ‘always blue ball’
  • Created virtual smartphone with mock phone-os and camera functionality
  • Created interactive liquid shader for Tequila bottle including stereoscopic ‘drunk’ post-process
  • Created fully playable and physics-reactive piano
  • Implemented gameplay logic for power drill mini game including dynamic ‘hole’ shader
  • Implemented microphone-reactive bong smoking system
  • Created sticky-notes system
